People should be honoring this kind of thing right?

Nope...saw a clip on sportscenter from one of the fantasy football "experts" criticizing the play because 11% of fantasy owners who had westbrook lost by less that 6 points(one TD, which he would have scored had he not taken a knee). Ironic how one unselfish act brings out the selfishness of others. sighs....

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/magazine/specials/sportsman/2007/11/07/segura.soccer/index.html

Another example of sports giving hope to people. And one of the matchups was LaDainian Tomlinson vs David Beckham. From an unbiased point of view, I think LT is much better than David Beckham in on field performance, and David Beckham blows away LT in off field popularity....which is very very very sad. Sad not just because I love LT and I think Beckham is overrated, but very sad that this is the way society has come to idolize the wrong people.

In the debate on ESPN, the debators pretty much debated on the popularity of David Beckham in the world. It is true, Beckham is one of the most recognized sports athlete in the world, but for what reasons? Sure, he has been on the England Nat'l team for the past decade, and he has won a few championships with some great teams, but is that what he is really known for? More people recognize him as one of the hottest people in the world and for being Posh spice's husband, than he is for his on field performance. I say his on field performance is overrated because the only thing he does well, is cross, play the long ball and free kicks (all the flashy things), which is great, but is a liability on defense and doesn't have great control. I don't debate that he is one of the most recognized athletes in the world, or that he shouldn't beat LT in a debate of whos now? but it is very sad that more people recognize Beckham than LT. (LT won the poll but by a margin of 50.7% to 49.3%).

It really is a detriment that LT doesn't endorse himself as much as other NFL athletes, like doing a crazy endzone dance or doing more commercials like Peyton Manning, but thats the great thing about him. The way LT plays on the field (letting his game speak for himself) and the way he carries himself off the field is something that every single child, if they want an idol, should strive for. LT is passionate about the game, has great work ethic, hes one of the best on the field, and EVERYONE knows it, yet he stays humble and shares all the praise he gets with his team. Off the field, he contributes immensly to the San Diego community from doing clothes drives to giving out turkeys on thanksgiving day. Yet if I were to ask someone if they knew this, most would probably only know about his on field performance. More people know that Beckham is married to posh spice than that LT gives away scholarships to kids in need of college education. Just watch the video of the debate and you can see even people want to just concentrate more on Beckham's off field life than anything of LT.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=whosnow&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab4pos1

I might have a man crush on LT (quote courtesy of Brian Wong) but its only because I think athletes like LT have the right balance of knowing how to be successful on the field and using that to benefit not just yourself but your community, your city, your country. And its not just LT, there are plenty of great athletes that do great work for their community yet this part of their lives go unnoticed to society. And there are plenty of athletes like Beckham that have publicized celebrity lives and society idolizes these.

'Tis a sad week...

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=441211&cc=5901

I've always thought that if LT or Henry got shipped to different teams, I would follow them instead of the team they were with. It is true. But I will stick with Arsenal. Just gotta trust that we will make it thru the tough times.

Henry will always be one of my favorite players of all time. Humble, team player, uses his amazing talents to the max. I really hoped he would end his career with Arsenal. But maybe now, I will follow Spainish soccer more. O how will miss thee Henry.

In other news, life is routine. too routine. class from 12-1:20, lunch from 1:30-1:50, chill until 3p/4p, work until 11-12, go to #9 and hangout till whenever. Its scary how on the dot my schedule is. too scary. Its like Will Farrell's character, Harold Crick in Stranger Than Fiction. Maybe I need a girl to break my routine .

WOW....i hate the padres farm system

Who hits a .394 average, 3 HRs, 25+ RBIs, 30+ Steals, be in the top 10 of the NL in average, OBP, SLUG and OPS, in 1.5 months of the season, AND GETS MOVED DOWN INTO AAA?!?!?! I don't feel any different though. Actually I was thinking about it today, what new things I could do. I can now...vote (yay?) and get drafted (w00t!! now my life is complete).

Its weird I feel more rooted in my "britishness" even though I became "American" today.
